Members of Billericay Round Table responded to the call of ‘let’s be ‘aving you’ travelling to the historic city of Norwich for this year’s annual weekend of fun and friendship.
The event, which each year attracts up to 500 members of Round Table Britain and Ireland from across the country, plus some from overseas (Round Table is present in 57 countries), returned to its spiritual home this weekend. While Norwich might be best known for Colman’s Mustard, Alan Partridge and Delia Smith it was also the founding place in 1927 of the Round Table organisation and home to its founder, Louis Marchesi. Billericay Round Table, one of 13 clubs in the county, joined their Essex team mates for the event hosted by the University of East Anglia (UEA). Whilst the social, including a trip to the Lotus factory, overrides the sporting endeavours, Saturday is Round Table’s own version of the Olympics. Each team participated in sports such as Badminton, Volleyball, Squash, Basketball and Wheelchair Basketball, Pool, Darts, 5-a-side, Archery, Rowing, Cross-country, Athletics and the famed Tug of War finale. The event climax was a black tie gala dinner at the historic St Andrew’s and Blackfriars’ Halls with music provided by the Norwich Brass Band and prize giving. Billericay Round Table Chairman, Seb Roberts said “This is always an incredibly popular event with our members and great to meet up with friends from all over the country. This year we perhaps excelled in the social arena rather more than the sporting, but we are already looking forward to Oxford 2016”. Billericay Round Table is open to guys aged 18-45 who want to do more with their lives and to improve the lives of others. Interested? Enquire at www.roundtable.co.uk
