A lovely garden and great relaxed festival feel allowed for a mellow time and a some much needed funds raised for St Lukes Hospice and J's Hospice.
Seb Roberts, Chairman of Billericay Round Table added " The highlights for me were More Tea Vicar and Tall Tree Tales. It's great that we can come along and help out at this great event and support it by making a £500 donation towards the PA and stewards for the front gate Billericay Round Table is all set to make sure that this November goes off with a bang with one of the largest charity firework displays in Essex, and would like to invite families from the whole region to watch spectacular fireworks fill the sky with colour, accompanied by a musical compilation designed for this one event.
The display will be held at Lake Meadows in Billericay on Saturday 7th November. This location has been used for many years by the volunteers of Billericay Round Table and last year alone had nearly 20,000 visitors, raising £48,000 for local good causes. Seb Roberts, Chairman of Billericay Round Table, said: “We started to plan this year’s event in January and at the heart of the plans, we are making sure visitors are kept safe and entertained from start to finish. We are using Spyrotechnics as our fireworks team this year, and their brief is to spend all of the £21,000 main display budget on providing a stunning fireworks show accompanied by music – it’s going to be spectacular! For the second year running there will also be a Kids Display earlier in the evening, which is set to be bigger, better and longer than last year, and will be set to well-known Disney songs.” “Our previous firework displays have helped us raise much-needed funds for local charities and we are keen to continue to provide funds for charities that in this time of austerity need support from groups such as Billericay Round Table”. For more information on the event and to purchase tickets in advance, please browse to www.billericayfireworks.co.uk Members of Billericay Round Table responded to the call of ‘let’s be ‘aving you’ travelling to the historic city of Norwich for this year’s annual weekend of fun and friendship.
The event, which each year attracts up to 500 members of Round Table Britain and Ireland from across the country, plus some from overseas (Round Table is present in 57 countries), returned to its spiritual home this weekend. While Norwich might be best known for Colman’s Mustard, Alan Partridge and Delia Smith it was also the founding place in 1927 of the Round Table organisation and home to its founder, Louis Marchesi. Billericay Round Table, one of 13 clubs in the county, joined their Essex team mates for the event hosted by the University of East Anglia (UEA). Whilst the social, including a trip to the Lotus factory, overrides the sporting endeavours, Saturday is Round Table’s own version of the Olympics. Each team participated in sports such as Badminton, Volleyball, Squash, Basketball and Wheelchair Basketball, Pool, Darts, 5-a-side, Archery, Rowing, Cross-country, Athletics and the famed Tug of War finale. The event climax was a black tie gala dinner at the historic St Andrew’s and Blackfriars’ Halls with music provided by the Norwich Brass Band and prize giving. Billericay Round Table Chairman, Seb Roberts said “This is always an incredibly popular event with our members and great to meet up with friends from all over the country. This year we perhaps excelled in the social arena rather more than the sporting, but we are already looking forward to Oxford 2016”. Billericay Round Table is open to guys aged 18-45 who want to do more with their lives and to improve the lives of others. Interested? After an evening of trying to be Chris Bonnington, it was over to the ever present BBQ for laughs and eats. Thanks to the great staff at the FACTS sailing centre.
For more information on the centre, please see www.fact.org.uk If you would like to join us on any of events, please see the calender page, pick and event and then drop us a line via the Contact page. So it has been confirmed that Round Table members really can't play cricket !
It was a good funny evening though. Every member of both teams had to have a bowl and every member had a bat. Even our resident American had a go ! Would you believe it......it was a draw . The "sport" was followed by a BBQ and drink and a few laughs at our attempt to recreate the Ashes atmosphere. 20/7/2015 0 Comments SNAPSNAP (Special Needs And Parents) is a registered charity that helps Essex families with children and young people who have any special need and disability. They approached Billericay Round Table and we were happy to be able to help by donating £4,190 to help buy four new iPad Air devices for children and young people to use plus an additional two devices for SNAP staff to offer support, advice and information to parents and carers attending their specialist centre in Essex. The new iPads will allow twice as many children to use the IT suite. The different applications and software that the group also funded to use on the iPads and computers will help to enhance the development of sensory, communication, motor and social play skills. Part of the donation will also go towards the creation of a new sector on the website aimed at giving families access to the content contained in the charities specialist library without the need to physically visit the centre. This will help parents’ access information allowing them to make confident choices on issues they are experiencing, leading to improved parenting skills. Billericay Round Table visited the centre to see the impact of the donation for themselves. 20/7/2015 0 Comments Hanningfield Sailability ProjectMid July saw Round Table visit the Hanningfield Sailability Project to pass the lines over on the two specialised sailing dinghy's that have been purchased and donated from the proceeds of the annual Fireworks display.
These vessels and designed for stability and safety and will last for many years to come for the disabled people of Essex to come and enjoy at no cost. The Sailing Project raised some of the cost themselves and then Billericay Round Table finished the fund raising by donating £11500 to the final cost of the boats.
